What type of shoes would be better with rafting and canyoning?
I canyoneering shoes, but my 2 friends did not want to spend $ 100 on a pair of Keen or tėvas they will probably never wear again. I looked reg sport sandals, but I am concerned by the lack of protection toe. What about old sneakers to dry quickly? We will make the descent waterfalls and we'll get quite humid with two activities. Does anyone have a suggestion / opinion on this issue?
You will absolutely want to wear shoes to protect the toe. A good pair of "sports shoes, running shoes and such, will be as good a job that most specially designed rafting or canyoning shoes .....( footwear companies do not want you to know that)! Your friends should know that the shoes will show unusual wear such a release as you describe, so if they have a pair expensive Air Jordan, or something that might be better to buy these Keens! I used some old sneakers, with quite successfully, but the type with canvas uppers take a long time to dry. Really beat old sneakers May fall apart and that would be very bad, so they can not be too old. (I had that happen on a trip down the Usumacinta River in Mexico / Guatemala ... not a great thing to occur in the middle of nowhere!) Really avoid open-toed sandals. I have seen many injuries related to those in the ski river. It may be elegant, but the protection is more important! It is also important that they fit well and stay during swimming in unintentional Rapids!
